So Close ...Yet So Far Away

“What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.”

― J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye

A few weeks back I had an extremely strange dream where I was in a library that was closing down and they had to sell all of their books. I went running all around the library searching for all the David Sedaris and J. D. Salinger books. Actually, in the dream I was saving those books. Saving them! I blame this dream on the fact that David Sedaris is coming to Jackson, Wyoming in November. I knew about this two months in advanced and had set an alarm on my phone for when the tickets were to go on sale. Two months in advanced!!! Tickets went on sale at noon. I got on my lunch break at noon. I got online and tried purchasing my tickets at 12:10. The website kept saying there was an error. So I called the box office at 12:15, and you know what? All the fucking tickets were gone! They sold out in the ten minutes that they had gone on sale! Who was I kidding though. It's David Fucking Sedaris! Oh wait, you don't know who David Sedaris is? Well that's just pretty sad and pathetic of you. Cause you're missing out. He's pretty fucking hilarious. See that quote up there? About the author being a friend of yours? That basically sums up David Sedaris. You wish he was your damn friend. And here I was so close to meeting him and then all of the tickets were gone. I was pretty annoyed about that so I decided I needed to buy some J.D. Salinger to cheer me up. Besides, how the hell did I not already have the book Franny and Zooey?
